Integrating Smallholder Farmers in Agricultural Value Chains through Enhanced Organizational Effectiveness

Funder: USAID through Development Alternatives Inc (DAI)

Goal: To strengthen the internal capacity of FUM and its targeted members to increase the volumes and quality of soybeans and groundnuts and effectively engage with markets in order to improve household income and nutrition

Specific objectives

  • To strengthen the capacity of Farmers Union of Malawi to sustainably deliver services to its members by 2015
  • To enhance governance and capacity of FOs for effective delivery of services to members
  • To enhance service delivery by FOs to members for increased production and marketing of high quality produce

Strengthening the Capacity of Farmers and Private Sector Actors in Policy Dialogue in the Agricultural Sector in Malawi

  • To improve the enabling environment for agriculture policy dialogue, development, implementation and monitoring in Malawi especially in the legume and dairy value chains

Outcomes

  • Increased capacity for FUM and MCCCI to engage effectively in policy development and implementation
  • Improved processes for policy development and implementation through coordinated engagement with government policy platforms

Integrating and Strengthening Capacity of Farmers Into District Stakeholder Panels For Improved Agricultural Extension Service Delivery in Malawi

Funder: Flanders International Cooperation Agency (FICA)
    • To provide smallholder farmers with an effective voice in the piloted districts;
    • To drive dialogue on extension services between the extension providers and the extension beneficiaries;
    • To streamline ‘the farmers’ voice’ from district level to the national level ASWAp dialogue structures and other national fora on agriculture

Linking Smallholder Farmers to Structure Markets
